Tour Guide Training Programme for Adult Leaners
Visit Glasnevin Cemetery Museum over two days and learn the skills of a tour guide. Here you will work closely with one of our experienced tour guides to discover the importance of tourism to the economy, the golden rules of customer service and how to engage your visitors in the past!
Participants will develop the skills of research, writing and public speaking, while exploring the history of 19th and 20th century Ireland. The first visit is the training portion of the programme, and on the second visit each participant steps into the shoes of the tour guide and performs, informs and entertains.
This engaging programme is presented by Glasnevin Cemetery Museum and is ideal for students studying courses in the areas of;
- Heritage and Culture
- Local History
- Tourism
- Pre-University Arts
- Communications
Each participant will receive individualised feedback from an experienced tour guide and those who complete the programme will receive a Certificate of Achievement.
This programme is already a feature of many third level courses.

Guided History Tour - Our renowned history tour gives students the opportunity to explore the diversity of Irish life since 1800, through the stories of the famous (and not so famous!) people who are buried here. See Ireland's History Carved in Stone!
Students gain a deeper understanding of events and personalities from The Decade of Centenaries
Local History is presented by our expert guides in a unique and memorable manner
Visit the graves of figures such as Daniel O' Connell, Michael Collins, Eamon de Valera, Charles Stewart Parnell, Maud Gonne, Countess Markievicz and many more.

Dead Interesting Tour - if you are looking for something different!
Aptly named 'Dead Interesting', this tour gives an alternative view of the varied heritage that Ireland's largest cemetery holds and the history within its walls. It provides a valuable insight into this unique Victorian burial place by telling the unusual and quirky stories of some of the lesser known personalities buried within its walls. Visitors will also learn of the sculpture, symbolism, architecture, art, sporting heroes, horticulture, natural life and much more.
They will visit the graves and hear the stories of little known figures such as:
Maria Higgins, a woman who died once yet was buried twice in Glasnevin.
The man who cut the ribbon and opened Sydney Harbour Bridge when he wasn't meant to...

Women's Tour - Celebrate the famous women of Glasnevin Cemetery; from rebels to romantics, suffragettes to abject suffering, artists, heroines and trailblazers.
Literary/Cultural Tour - Take a tour in the footsteps of some of the literary and cultural figures resting within the walls of Glasnevin Cemetery, featuring writers, artists and musicians both famous and forgotten.
Joycen Tour - Glasnevin Cemetery and Joyce are connected in many ways. The cemetery features in the epic novel Ulysses and his parents are buried here too.
Shared History Tour - The Ulster Covenant, The First World War, The Easter Rising and The War of Independence have all been pivotal events in Ireland's History. From Royal Engineers and Irish Guardsmen to Irish Volunteers and Statesmen, this tour seeks to explore the lives of those involved in these events.
We can incorporate elements of the following areas of interest: Military History, Labour History, 1916, and Garden Cemetery into a General History Tour. Please note that these are not stand alone tours.
