The Decade of Centenaries Genealogy Workshop - Transition Year.
A new and exciting educational offering for 2017
Glasnevin Cemetery Museum offers TY students the opportunity to delve into family history and learn the skills of a genealogist. Students will visit Glasnevin Museum where our resident genealogist will guide them through an on-site workshop. Using a range of methodologies including demonstrations, group-work and field-work, students will explore the main principles of genealogy and develop their research skills and knowledge.
Students are assigned to group projects that involve researching the genealogy of selected individuals. Teachers will receive a pack and lesson plans to aid the research process. This research will then be delivered collectively in class by each group. Students will send their findings back to Glasnevin Cemetery Museum and can choose to have their work published electronically. Each student that completes the programme will receive a Certificate of Achievement.
This workshop has been designed with the core-skills of TY in mind and takes the learning environment outside of the classroom, integrates research and ICT skills, develops group-working skills and focuses strongly on communication skills.
