Glasnevin Cemetery Museum are running a Daniel O'Connell related compettion on Facebook.  We are doing this to conincide with his commemoration and also to highlight the fact that O'Connell Tower itself is now open to visitiors for the first time in 45 years.  Please see below for all details pertaining to the competition.

Launch Date: Friday, May 11th

End Date: Wednesday, June 6th

Winners Announced:  Friday, June 8th

Prize: Family ticket or 4 X Adult tickets for O'Connell Tower (date is subject to availability)

Task:  Entrants must compose a haiku and post it on our Facebook page before midnight on Wednesday, June 6th, 2018.  The only rule is that the haiku must reference Daniel O'Connell or the O'Connell Tower in some way and must have the #O'ConnellHaiku on the post.

OK great, what is a haiku when it's at home? A haiku is a form of verse (originating in Japan), written in 17 syllables divided into 3 lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.

Entrants must be aged 16 or over.

Entrants must post their entries to the Glasnevin Cemetery Museum page before midnight on Wednesday, June 6th, 2018.

Under no circumstances must any offensive material be posted, any individuals who do so will be blocked from the page.

The use of pictures and or videos to accompany the haikus are allowed as long as there is a relevant link.

The winner will be announced on the Glasnevin Cemetery Museum Page on 5PM on Friday, June 8th and entrants must be available to be contacted in regards to the next steps on this date.

Entrants must read the terms and conditions associated with the Tower Climb before entering, there are age restrictions and health and safety rules in place which must be abided by in relation to climbing the tower.
