Welcome to the website of Glasnevin Cemetery Museum

Bloomsday 2016

It is not unusual to see dedicated Joyceans make the annual trip to Glasnevin Cemetery in hired horse-drawn carriages; some even rent a hearse for full authenticity. Amongst the countless Joycean characters buried in Glasnevin is the writer's father John Stanislaus. This year to celebrate this historic date Glasnevin Cemetery Museum will run a series of events Including a Joycean themed breakfast & lunch in the Tower Café, a reading of Chapter Six Hades performed by the 'Joycestagers', and a Joycean tour of the cemetery itself.

Bloomsday Running Order:

10.00-3.00pm; Special Joycean Breakfast and Lunch in Glasnevin Cemetery Museum's Tower Café.

11.30am: Re-enactment the funeral procession of Paddy Dignam from Episode 6, 'Hades', of Ulysses. Performed by the 'Joycestagers'. All Welcome (Approx. 30 mins)

Followed by...

"This tour takes a walk through the life, time and imagination of James Joyce."

12.15pm: A Joycean Tour of Glasnevin Cemetery. Glasnevin, the heart of the Hibernian necropolis, has many links to Joyce's life and writing. From the Hades Chapter in Ulysses which takes place in the Cemetery, to the family grave which is the final resting place of his parents. Places Limited, Booking Essential.

Joycean costume is most welcome.
